Brian Eaton

Brian Eaton is a retired community mental health worker, part-time journalist , film reviewer and sometime full-time student, who likes to think of himself as a Northern Urbanite. Although he has been a Yukoner for 35 years, he has never lived in a cabin, worn a plaid shirt, or learned to use a chainsaw, and doesn’t have any stories of a bear encounter. It was the process of researching and writing a university essay on the relationship of Yukon Indigenous people and their relationship with grizzly bears that piqued his interest in these magnificent entities. Attending a community consultation for the Yukon Grizzly Bear Management Plan convinced him of the need to seriously review our policies, to stop talking of “harvesting” and “managing” our grizzly population, and start co-existing with them.
